Rick grew up in the industrial outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and currently resides in Rhode Island. Jobs Rick has held over the years include: alt-newsweekly reporter, fast food cashier, adjunct instructor, first-person history interpreter, in-home caregiver for intellectually disabled people, bank data entry guy, and grassroots organizer.
Rick has a master’s degree in Popular Culture from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where he wrote his thesis on stories people tell about their cars breaking down, and an English degree from Saint Vincent College in Pennsylvania. A member of the Rhode Island Mycological Society, he spends as much of his spare time as he can wandering through the woods searching for fungi and slime molds.
